Breathtaking Givenchy
Well, it's been a while since I've posted anything about designers.... However, I felt Riccardo Tisci's couture collection for Givenchy AW10 was a perfect place to begin. His use of ostrich feathers, lace, fur and leathers is not only breathtaking but elegantly luxurious. His inspiration; the painter Frida Kahlo and her relationship with religion, sensuality and her battle with spinal pain. Like every couture artist each pearl and each crystal has been sewn with a purpose and as always the gowns are utterly inspiring.

Texprint
(above: Texprint article)
(above: Zandra Rhodes, a judge from the previous year)
Today i found out that 4 other girls and i are being forwarded by the university to possibly be interviewed and compete in the international company Texprint that helps young designers gain connections with industry. I'm so honoured to even have been chosen by my tutors to experience this opportunity!

Degree Show 2010
After months of hard work, late nights and early mornings I'm finally finished and here's a preview of my collection.
My tutor said to me today that whilst my work was getting assessed they had mentioned how my designs would look great on Brandon Flowers. That statement alone some how seemed to make the hard work worth it.

Twisted Tradition
Contemporary twist on Barbour style quilted jacket - (unknown source)
Luella - current collection
Barbour - ad campaign
Yesterday i started re-watching British Style Genius, an inspiring programme that aired on the BBC in 2008. Consisting of (i think) about 7 episodes each encapsulating a different British clothing style. Whilst watching the episode entitled "Country Look" i found it extremely interesting how classic, well-respected, British brands such as Barbour and Aquascutum have quite easily translated into 21st century fashion trends. With other designers such as Luella Bartley taking great influence from British heritage brands such as these making classic brands and styles more appealing every season. This is something i definitely aim to explore throughout my collection this year.

Menswear Couture
Okay so maybe mens tailoring doesn't quite fit into the classic interpretation of couture, but so far it is the closest the male species have to it.
Over the years my interest for menswear and tailoring has grown. Working for Harvey Nichols International and Tailoring departments i was able to observe brands such as Gieves and Hawkes. Originating famously from Savile Row, London, the craftsmanship and quality of purchasing a bespoke suit really is a lifestyle choice. Like couture, these pieces will last a lifetime, come from a well respected historical background and above all you will own the only one.

New Designs...
Back to uni this week for our last semester. Doubt I'll be getting much sleep over the next 4months but I'm hopeful it'll all be worth it. I shall also try and post more new work up soon, but until then this is a couple pieces I have been working on... (sorry the images aren't the best quality as took them on my blackberry)
